Building & Zoning

The Planning and Zoning commission oversees all building and regulation within the City. The Planning Commission shall be comprised of the Mayor and all councilmembers.

The authority of the Planning Commission for the City of Truman shall be vested in the City Council of the City of Truman.  The Planning Commission shall hold separate meetings which shall be noticed separately from any regular or special meetings of the City Council.  The City Council, acting as the Planning Commission, shall have the authority to conduct all activities and responsibilities authorized of a Planning Commission under Minnesota Statutes.

Truman has adopted the Minnesota State Building Code as its rules for construction.  Building setback and zoning information can be obtained at City Hall.  All construction, modification, or demolition requires a building permit.  Please see our brochure below for a list of projects in which you need a permit.  The permit application is available for download and completion.  (You will need Adobe’s free Acrobat Reader to view and complete this application.)  Requests for variance require a special form.  Due to the detailed instructions, this form is only available in person at City Hall.
